covering my tracks.

There are many reasons that February had no mixtape installment: imeem was absorbed by the devil, Google has been cracking down on music blogs, I have other things to do (e.g. that pesky thing called a Master's degree), etc. Yet despite these very pressing issues, the masses have spoken out in revolt. (And by 'masses', I mean one Ms. Molly Murphy.)

So as a copout / appeasement, I've crafted a special mix inspired by a couple tracks I've recently discovered. I use the term 'discover' loosely here, as by no means are the songs new, but the versions of them are. Yes, my friends, I'm talking about everyone's favorite, the cover song.

Since the dawn of time, or maybe just since the release of Garden State, reinterpreting a song that came out what seems like only 2 weeks ago has been a very vogue thing to do within the indie music scene.

Here's a round-up of some of my favorites, the newest pair acting as bookends to the playlist. Everything is linked side-by-side with the original for your before-and-after convenience. It may not be new music, but it might be new old music. (Now quit griping, Molly.)

no me digas...
